What is a health assessment?

Our health risk assessment or nursing assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of your personal health risks, including:

Health Needs Assessment

How does our health assessment work?

Discovery

First, our regulated nurses (RN or LPN) will obtain your health information over the phone, including your current medications and vaccinations. Then, we’ll schedule an in-person health assessment visit at your home.

Assessment

Our 2-hour assessment includes reviewing your medical history, family health history, physical assessment, daily living assessment (including physical and mental health), as well as setting personal health goals and supporting your health concerns.

Report

Within 24 hours we’ll provide a written report of your current health status and risks, which you can use to communicate with other healthcare professionals.

Support

Each month, our nurses provide two hours of health guidance and mental health support, including monitoring blood pressure, blood glucose levels, accompanying you to your appointments, as well as providing mental health counselling services and emotional support for you and your caregivers.

Health & Safety Equipment [COMING SOON]

Our government approved Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) assessor can provide a free equipment needs assessment and approve government funding for equipment that you may need in your home to support your independence for aging in place.

Risk Assessment Edmonton

What is a home safety risk assessment?

Our comprehensive 240-point home safety and risk assessment is conducted by our nationally certified Senior Home Safety Specialists™. This 2-hour assessment includes educating you, your family and caregivers on home safety and potential risks around your house, as well as providing an extensive report with an action plan to reduce risks related to home safety, fall prevention, financial exploitation, and personal safety.

Safety Assessment

What are the benefits of a safety assessment?

The benefits of conducting a home safety and risk assessment include:

  • Minimize risk for injuries and falls at home, which are the leading cause of injury related hospitalizations for adults over 65 years old
  • Minimize risk of being hospitalized permanently, as 50% of people who are hospitalized because of a fall will never go home again
  • Minimize risk for being admitted into a long-term care home, as 1/3 of all admissions into long-term care occur because of fall related hospitalizations
  • Identify potential risks to your health and safety at home for you and your family
  • Receive education on personal safety and fraud protection for seniors
  • Receive support to access government funding for aging in place

How does our safety assessment work?

Discovery

First, our Senior Home Safety Specialists™ will visit your home and conduct a comprehensive 240-point home safety and risk assessment.

Assessment

Our 2-hour assessment identifies all potential risks to home safety, including how to minimize or prevent falls and injuries, personal safety and financial exploitation.

Report

We also educate you, your family and caregivers on how to minimize your home and personal safety risks with an extensive report listing actionable steps.

Support

Each month, our Senior Home Safety Specialists™ provide two hours of home safety support, including providing resources and guidance to access government funding to support aging in place, referring you to organizations that can provide support, as well as educating you on personal security and fraud protection.

Annj Ridsdale-Weddell, MBA, BSCN, RN, GNC(C), SHSS

Co-Founder, Registered Nurse, RNCare

As a Registered Nurse (RN) for over 30 years, Annj has had a lifelong passion for helping others and a deep-rooted curiosity about what’s important to people. As a result of her passion for helping those in need, Annj co-founded RNCare – a company rooted in the nursing values of safety, compassion and trust.

In 2020, Annj became the first person in Alberta to be certified as a Senior Home Safety Specialist™ by Age Safe® Canada. Annj has also completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSCN), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and has had a Gerontological Nursing Certification for over 20 years.

Together, RNCare looks forward to using our knowledge and experience to help the many Albertans who wish to age in place with dignity, in a safe environment and with the highest quality of life possible.

Stacy is the Southern Alberta representative for RNCare and a certified Senior Home Safety Specialist™ serving Calgary and surrounding areas. She is the second person to be certified as a Senior Home Safety Specialist™ in Alberta by Age Safe® Canada.

Stacy has lived in Calgary for over 20 years where she raised her family. She worked for the City of Calgary for most of her career, understanding the local needs of people in Calgary. She knows the people and what’s important to them – Calgarians value honesty and care a great deal about each other and their community.

 

I feel so fortunate to have the specialized knowledge to assist the seniors and adults in my life who are aging in place and I am excited to meet many new people in Calgary and neighboring communities who I can help.
